Printing And Marketing; Color And Design Matter

Not long ago we published an article about "Marketing With Trash Bags" that discussed how Home Depot is able to get free advertising on every street in town by printing their bright orange logo on yard waste bags that line the street every day in the fall.

Well Home Depot isn't the only game in town, every retailer that sells yard waste bags does the same thing, but as with all printing if you don't use the right colors and design you won't get the results you want.

I saw the perfect example of this right down the street. I was walking the dog and as usual the Home Depot trash bag billboards were all lined up, I could see the Home Depot logo from a hundred feet away. As I walked by a stack of Home Depot trash bag billboards I noticed the next set of billboards was from another company, but I had no idea what company it was.

The logo was small and everything was printed in a lime green ink that I could barely see against the brown background of the trash bags, I had to get real close to see the logo on the bags belonged to Homelife. Compare this to the bright orange Home Depot logo and the large black print they use for additional marketing and you quickly realize Homelife may as well have left their trash bag billboards blank, you can't see their message or their logo.

Check out the photos of the trash bags side by side, Can you even read the Homelife bag, can you make out their logo? Does the printing and design help increase brand awareness and name recognition? Will you remember the Homelife brand or simply walk right by without even noticing?

With printing and marketing color and design matter. The same concept applies for every product, from presentation folders to accordion folders, from trash bags to booklets, you need colors that stand out and a design that gets noticed to get the results you want..
